ISE II Public Figures Lesson
Here is an ISE II Public Figures lesson plan for you to try out with your students. It covers about 3 hours of class time (depending on class size and the time you spend on each part) and includes a reading text, a writing question and discussion topics. It can be used in conjunction with the ISE II Public Figures vocabulary, conversation questions, and listening lesson to provide you with a whole unit of work!
The ISE II Public Figures Lesson Plan
The lesson plan is built around a reading text about the most influential people in the UK. The lesson starts with a discussion/quiz about famous public figures in Britain and then the students read a text about the Debrett’s 500 list of influential people. The reading questions are the same as those on the ISE II long reading text (match paragraphs, find true statements and complete the sentences with words from the text), so it should provide your students with good practice for the reading and writing module.
After reading the text, the students have to talk about influential people in their own country, and there is some helpful language to help them do this. There is then a writing prompt with a sample answer that they analyse to help them write their own answer. This is similar to a Task 4 extended writing question from the ISE II exam. Again, good practice for both the reading and writing and the public figures topic are as they have time to use the vocabulary and form their ideas. This should help with speaking skills and the conversation stage too.
